General adult psychiatric problems provides psychiatric services for those aged 18 and over. We practice in London and the Wessex region, with patients coming to see us from across the UK and even abroad.

Whatever the problem, our team will diagnose your condition and provide treatment from one of our practices.

While most patients can be treated as outpatients, we offer day care to those who need more intense therapy. Residential treatment is also available.

The hospitals that we use offer a variety of packages of care focusing on specific conditions such as bipolar disorders, addictions, depression, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress and even combinations of the above. Facilities are available to those with psychosis and for those who are detained under the Mental Health Act.

Psychological therapies provide access to a variety of psychological services.

Psychological therapies significantly enhance the treatment of psychiatric disorders and many of our therapists use a blend of these in their practice.

Psychiatry for the older person provides services for those with mental health problems later in life.

These include treatment for:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Enduring mental health problems
  • Memory problems and the dementias
  • Many patients have complex medical issues in conjunction with their psychological problem. Therefore we undertake detailed investigation to determine the correct diagnosis and management plan.

This will often involve a variety of psychological tests to assess memory, physical examination, blood tests and scans. A full report is prepared for the patient.

It may be necessary for some people to have their capacity to make decisions assessed. This can be for appearance in court, lasting power of attorney or court of protection decisions. These assessments are done according to the Mental Capacity Act and relevant case law.

Improving mental health

At we know that there is no health without mental health. In the workplace, a poor response to stress or poor concentration can have serious consequences. Poor mental performance can impair social and family life and relationships can be damaged.

None of us is immune from neurosis. You may not have a “clinical" psychiatric problem, but performance can be significantly impaired by bad habits, poor style of thinking, poor sleep, poor nutrition and little exercise.

We offer coaching and psychoeducation to help improve mental resilience. This helps people achieve their maximum potential and can have a marked impact on their social, family and working life.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr Ciaran Kelly is a consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with extensive experience of working with young people up to the age of 18. However Dr Kelly is also availible for young people who remain in education or who are living at home.

Dr Kelly works with a wide range of colleagues from different Disciplines who can provide specialist services including Clinical Psychology, Family therapy, Occupational Therapy, CBT Trauma Focussed Therapy etc. Dr Kelly works closely with colleagues so that the individual needs of each young person can be met.

Dr Kellys out patient consulting rooms are based in Romsey, Hampshire. If necessary an out reach assessmnet service can be offered for young people to be seen at home or at school.

Typical referrals include young people who have depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, AD(H)D, self harm, eating disorders, alcohol and substance misuse, gaming/internet addictions, or fatigue syndromes. Dr Kelly has a special interest in working with children who have neuro-developmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Aspergers Syndrome.
